Iedere stroming leidt uiteindelijk tot een tegenstroming, ook in de muziek. In de overvloed van grunge begin jaren 90 ontstond slowcore (of sadcore), waarbij de inhoud en vorm van de alternatieve rock werd teruggebracht tot een minimale en atmosferische invulling. Bekende exponenten van deze muzieksoort zijn onder meer Low en Red House Painters, die ieder op een geheel eigen wijze invulling geven aan het toch altijd weer te krappe etiket. Ook Downriver Dead Men Go, een viermansformatie uit Leiden, voortgekomen uit de alternatieve rockband Caitlin, zoekt zijn eigenzinnige weg binnen het genre.
Downriver Dead Men Go are a Dutch band. It is the side project of band members of the band Caitlin (Gerrit Koekebakker, Fernandez Burton and Andy de Zeeuw), and additional musician Gijs van Rijn. Tides is the band’s debut album. I love the cover of the album, a beautiful and serene painting. This album was pretty tough to review. This is not the regular music I listen to but I can appreciate it. To me, it’s alternative slow rock/post rock music with long stretching musical themes. I do love the atmosphere that surrounds the album. It’s dark, it’s somewhat depressing as well, but very beautiful. Don’t expect up tempo and cheery music elements while listening to this album.

Now that the hollidays are almost done we will be hitting the road again to get our album promoted.
The show on monday the 31 of August at Dwaze Zaken in Amsterdam is cancelled
After that we will play, if the band battle ends in our favour and it looks like a done deal, at Gebr De Nobel in Leiden on september the 1st. Followed by our show on the 3rd at De Paap in Den Haag.

On the 12th of june we finally will release our debut album “TIDES”! This event will take place on De Turfmarkt 2 at Katwijk aan de Rijn. At about 22.00 we will play a full live set in our new five-man line-up and the evening will be concluded with an aftershow from Danny Ramirez.
Access is only 5 euros and you will get a copy of our album ( an hour of music) for free and for nothing. So please come along on this, for us very special, evening!!!
